Open House, Open Studios at the North Bennet Street School

Aspiring furniture makers, bookbinders, jewelry makers – or those merely curious about the process of making exquisite things by hand – are invited to a rare, behind-the-scenes look at one of the America’s oldest schools of craftsmanship during a special two-day open house to be held November 6 and 7 at the North Bennet Street School (www.nbss.org) in Boston’s North End.

The event will be held on Friday, November 6, 10am to 2pm and Saturday, November 7, 10am to 3pm.  Admission to the event is free.

NEMPAC Film Festival To Feature North End/Waterfront Residents

The first annual North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) Film & Music Festival will feature a collection of performances from North End/Waterfront residents. The festival will screen a short film entitled “Viva! Saint Agrippina Di Mineo” that documents the Saint Agrippina Feast, owner of the Wild Goose and North End resident, Sal D’Girolamo, plays the lead role in short film The Audition, and North End musicians Jeremy Sazranzo, Gary Fieldman and Sandro Carella will perform in the band, Crosstown.  The event will take place this Thursday, October 22nd at 7:00pm at the Hard Rock Café Boston located on 22-24 Clinton St.

Along with the above performances of North End/Waterfront residents, there will be seven other short films screened at the festival and there will also be two other musical performances from jazz musician, Harvey Diamond, and NEMPAC Instructor, Greg de Bourgknecht. Along with the film screenings and musical performances, the event will include question & answer sessions with the filmmakers, cast and crew and there will be a special guest appearances from local filmmakers, Dave McGlaughlin and Frank Ciotta.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the door with cash or credit card for $10 or they can be purchased in advance by calling NEMPAC at (617) 227-2270.   All proceeds from tickets sales will go directly toward supporting NEMPAC’s mission of providing affordable arts-related programming to residents of the North End/Waterfront and the surrounding neighborhoods.  There will also be a cash bar and full food menu available for purchase.  If you would like additional information about the event,  please contact Jonathan Sproul at (617)519 -3106 or via email at jonathansproul@gmail.com.

Annual North End Elephant Breakfast

With the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus in town at the TD Garden, there will be the annual elephant feeding on Thursday, October 15 on Hanover Street, by the Prado (Paul Revere Mall) at 11:00 am.

RINGLINGS LARGEST LADIES LUNCH WITH BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS IN BOSTONS NORTH END

Ringling Bros. Teams up with the Massachusetts Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® to Promote October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month with an Elephant Brunch!

WHAT:Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey elephants will walk down the street to the North End from the TD Garden for a festive lunch.  The traditional fare (Approx. 40 loaves of bread, 30 bunches of bananas, 30 lbs of apples, 20 heads of lettuce, 3 bushels of carrots, 6 watermelons, if available) will be provided by Mikes Pastry and F&B Produce.

Immediately following the elephant feeding, Kelly Ann, the painting pachyderm, will create a masterpiece in front of the crowd, which will later be donated to the Massachusetts Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  Kelly Anns trainer, Aaron Morris and Hischam Ballsam will be available for interviews.

Post-painting, invited breast cancer survivors and their families will board Penelope, the pink DUCK from Boston Duck Tours for a private tour of the city along with several performers from Over the Top. Later, these families will swing by the TD Garden for the Thursday evening performance of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents Over the Top!

streets of Cambridge and Boston to the TD Garden.

Closest location to the North End/Waterfront:
The elephants will go down Martha Road and take a left on Nashua Street to the Garden ramp.

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is at the TD Garden October 14-18.
