Bocce Season Begins for Friends of the North End

“Friends Of The North End” began their Spring 2016 Bocce season on Sunday, May 1st. The games are played on Sunday mornings at the North End outdoor Bocce courts beginning at approximately 8:00 a.m.

The day was cool and overcast but the spirit of camaraderie and fair play brightened the day for all players. Competition was stiff as usual and the kibitzing was at an all-time high.

It was a pleasure to see the return of John Lombardi after a long winter of illness, his performance was at par with himself, but we welcomed him back to the competition anyway. Gaspar and Willie were at each other with insults and criticism of the other’s skill of the game, a skill neither possesses.

Trying out the new laser measuring tool

Commissioner Sam Viscione introduced the new laser measuring tool. This device is supposed to accurately measure the distance between balls and the pallino (small ball), and take away the possibility of making a bad call.  Sammy’s learning curve with the laser will take him into the fall season.

We welcome our friend Eric Marsh who will be playing this spring season. He is the Author of an upcoming book about the North End and Bocce.

The next event will be Sunday, May 8, 2016.
