The Mendoza Family and staff of Monica’s exceeded all expectations by raising over $100,000 at the 5th Annual “Evening for Education” for the North End’s Eliot K-8 Innovation School. Jorge Mendoza from the public school’s governing council announced the news at this week’s Neighborhood Council meeting.
A key role in the fundraising drive was played by the Lynch Foundation with matching funds allowing the group to reach the six figure total. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward creating the Carolyn and Peter Lynch Literacy Room at the Eliot for its 450 students. The funds will be used to purchase much needed books for every classroom across the Eliot’s 10 grades.
Principal Traci Griffith, a Lynch Leadership Academy Fellow, joined the school in April 2007 ushering in an era of growth and change at the K-8 school. As the school grew from 150 to 400 students, the Mendoza Family fundraiser has grown as well.
The Eliot welcomes business owners to join in a new sponsorship program where a small monthly contribution would be recognized as Friends of the Eliot School. Those interested can contact Jorge Mendoza at gmonicas@aol.com.
