Today Show” co-host Matt Lauer visited the John Eliot K-8 School last week. He was greeted by Boston Public Schools Superintendent Carol R. Johnson and Eliot School Principal Traci Walker-Griffith. Lauer flew to Boston to conduct interviews at the Eliot on the importance of Kindergarten.
Congratulations to the John K. Eliot School finding success with 4 year olds. May I suggest a name for this program? Why not call it Head Start? There is a saying among educators–"What goes around comes around"…….but then a new political force comes into power and decides to change or delete programs, successful or not.
So there you go. You get out of a school what you put into it and Traci Griffith and her crew have put a lot into it. We owe them a debt.
Next time you see Traci on the street, shake her hand, buy her a coffee and tell her what you are going to do for the Eliot.
By the way, the video of the Today Show visit is on their site …

Good point, George. There is an excellent North End Head Start Program in the Saint John's School building on Sun Court Street off of North Square. Program Director Marilyn Frissora and her staff of qualified teachers and licensed cook run a tight ship, in full compliance with Federal regulations, and offer workshops and counseling to parents as well. A lot of the Eliot's current K-1 and K-2 bunch are fresh out of the North End Head Start Program, and this factor no doubt explains much of the success of the Eliot's Kindergarten program. We love you, Head Start!!
