A Fun Filled Week Ahead Leading into Columbus Day Weekend

As if it didn’t rain enough on Sunday, Monday morning, the start of the long work week always seem to be a bit of a downer. Work days usually consist of meetings, and possibly some exercise – this week is no different. Public Meetings will be taking place throughout the week and Stephen’s Run, a first annual 5K road race will be on Sunday morning. There are tons of exciting events worth taking a look at.

Monday, October 7

4:00pm Kids Italian Heritage Month Craft – NE Library
Celebrate Italian Heritage Month by making a colorful paper mosaic. This fun and easy craft is for ages 3 and up. No sign up required.

6:00pm Government Center Garage Redevelopment Meeting at Boston City Hall, 5th Floor

8:00pm “Mondays with Marty” at Fairmont Battery Wharf Hotel – Old North Skylight Room
“Mondays with Marty” is a series of open Town Hall Meetings with residents. These events are designed to be an opportunity for Rep. Walsh to listen to voters about their concerns. They are organized around neighborhoods or constituency groups, and are always free and open to the public. See the announcement.

3:00pm NEMPAC Pumpkin Painting
Nempac will host our annual pumpkin painting event on the Prado Tuesday, October 8th, right after school. Rain date will be announced if needed! There will be 100 pumpkins at NEMPAC waiting to be painted! Come out Tuesday after-school from 3:15pm – 5pm to paint yours! Please bring $5 for a pumpkin, bring a smock if you have one, and we’ll provide the rest! A shout out and HUGE thank you to John at Prince Postale for providing pumpkins again this year!!

Wednesday, October 9

8:00am “Chasing Life” TV Series Filming in North End
Right Coast Productions has announced the filming of television scenes in the North End to be used in the new ABC Family Series, “Chasing Life.” The pilot was filmed in Boston last November & December under the name “Terminales”. The show revolves around April, an ambitious young journalist who tries to balance her career with her family. She lives with her widowed mother, her younger, rebellious sister and her grandmother. Her professional and romantic life is just starting to take off when she gets news she has a rare type of cancer. See the post.

6:00pm “Il Sono Li “- Films for Italian Heritage Month – NE Library
“Il Sono Li” – Shun Li and the Poet – 2010 Italian and Mandarin with subtitles -98 mins A study of the friendship between a Chinese woman and a fisherman who came to Italy from Yugoslavia many years ago, and live in a small city-island in the Veneto lagoon.

Sunday, October 13

11:00am Stephen’s 5k Run at Prado – Paul Revere Mall
A group of North End residents is organizing the first 5K Stephen’s Run on Sunday, October 13, 2013 in honor of Stephen Perez and to benefit the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans and the Rosanne Sdoia Recovery Fund. The 5k run will start and end at the Prado (Paul Revere Mall) on Hanover Street in Boston’s North End, traveling through Historic Downtown Boston. The 5k run is on the morning before the North End Columbus Day Parade. More information and registration information for the Stephen’s 5K run

The 2013 Columbus Day Parade will be held on Sunday, October 13th in Boston’s North End along Commercial, Hanover and Endicott Streets.

1:00pm Columbus Day Parade in North End
The Bi-Annual Columbus Day Parade will take place on Sunday October 13, beginning at City Hall Plaza at 1:00PM. The parade will make its way through downtown Boston and the waterfront, the Christopher Columbus Park and into the North End. The parade will include, Boston Police and Fire honor guard, military personnel and vehicles, marching bands, drum & bugle corps, antique cars, Neighborhood groups, color guard, floats and thousands of other participants. Best viewing is on Commercial, Hanover and Endicott Streets in the North End. (More information)

 

Monday, October 14 – Columbus Day Holiday

10:45 am – 3:00 pm The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) continues its tradition of marking Christopher Columbus’ arrival in America with a free Columbus Day Celebration, this year to be held on Monday October 14 at the park. (More information)
