Skate Date Fundraiser Brings Out North End Families and Friends for Skating Fun

Skate Date 2013 featured a fundraising event by the North End Athletic Association and North End Against Drugs during free public skating at Steriti Rink on Commercial Street. Families and friends enjoyed a day of skating fun while several neighborhood groups set up informational tables and a bocce tournament.

The Nazzaro Center Band played during the event, led by Jeremy Sarzana, with participation from NEMPAC that also offered face painting and kids activities.  NEAD set up a popular bake sale and held an extensive raffle. Principal Traci Walker Griffith talked to parents at the Eliot Innovation School table while participants learned about local health and beauty resources from Hordon Health, Koukla Salon and the North End Waterfront Health & Beauty Alliance.

Thanks to the generosity of Fred White of the North End Skate Shop, proceeds from Skate Rentals and the Snack Shack were donated to the two non-profits. The group estimates about 300 people attended the January 27, 2013 event over the three hours.
