The Feast of San Gennaro would have celebrated its third Boston iteration this year but has been canceled for this September, according to its North End organizers Frank DePasquale, Pasquale Trotta and Nick Varano who vow to bring it back in September 2021.
“It is with a heavy heart that we have to postpone our beloved Feast of San Gennaro this year. But, with the time it takes to ramp up and the pieces that need to begin being put in place right now, we realize that this just isn’t the right time,” said Frank DePasquale. “We look forward to coming back stronger than ever in September 2021 and we will see you all then.”
The feast generally takes place on the last block of Hanover Street during the third weekend of September featuring authentic pizza ovens, more than thirty Italian food vendors, live entertainment and special appearances. The feast has been emceed by Billy Costa of KISS 108 and NESN’s Dining Playbook and Colton Bradford of 101.7 The Bull and NBC Boston.
San Gennaro’s Feast is a festival to benefit local autistic charities and hosted by the San Gennaro Foundation. View photos from past feasts.
it’ the right decision. I wonder if all the other feast will do the same
Joe Sarno For this new feast I understand why and all. I am worried about Agrippina, Della Cava, Fisherman’s St Lucy and St Anthony’s the most. I mean even those June/July ones but August seems to be the trick. I think just processions in August is better than nothing. I can’t see the North End for those three months have nothing. It’s uncalled, and rare to hear the word cancelled when it comes to the North End feasts. Postponing is one thing and it’s happened in the past. The elders too I understand and respect that too.
I’ve been following the Feasts since I was a little boy.The decision to cancel the San Gennaro was the right one being pro active is necessary & I hope as much as I look forward to the summer Feasts that the society’s follow the lead and cancell all Feasts this summer We hopefully 🙏🏻 will stop the spread of this virus and get it under control but I feel the Government is feeding us a line of BS & some people are more concerned with multi-million dollar Tom Brady’s future than the pandemic that threatens all of us and our way of life as we knew it. 😷
Looking at photos of feasts gone by……..thank you, thank you, thank you! Love your work, Matt. You capture the essence of our neighborhood wonderfully.
