Residents’ Association (NEWRA) Supports 8-12 Battery St. Roof Deck

The North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) voted to support a new roof deck at 8-12 Battery St. to replace the old roof deck at their October meeting.

The petition was presented by Greylock Roofing Project Manager Lauren Knollmeyer. Greylock was hired to replace the roof on 8-12 Battery Street and, in doing so, had to remove an existing roof deck. As they were finishing the project and going to put the roof deck back on, they learned it had not been permitted originally.

The structure will be reinforced and brought up to code, with the deck being the same size and in the same location as the previous one, set back about 10-12 feet from the street.

The Trustees of the 8-12 Battery Street Condominium Association do have a set of rules for the roof that cover common concerns such as noise, maximum capacity, keeping the roof deck clean, and being responsible for any damages. A longtime resident and member of the Trustees who was present at the meeting confirmed there have rarely been issues on the roof and any time there has been, for example for excessive noise, they have been dealt with immediately.

NEWRA voted to support the proposal 21-2.

This project was also presented to the North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) in September. NEWNC voted to support the project 7-0.
