Thursday’s Brief: Slave Auction Memorial Update, Celebrate What Unites Us, Yoga-Lates, Summer Concerts

Today is Thursday, July 25 and here’s what you need to know for today!

10:30AM Celebrate What Unites Us: Ireland. Stop by Armenian Heritage Park where attendees will begin with a community leader sharing his or her immigrant experience. Attendees will then take a meditative walk around the labyrinth before walking to The KITCHEN for a seasonal cooking demonstration and free lunch prepared by chefs from some of Boston’s neighborhood restaurants.

10:30A Yoga-Lates by Age Strong Commission. Stop by the North End Park for Yoga-Lates by Age Strong Commission, see here for additional details and a full lineup of Greenway fitness classes.

Update on the Slave Auction Memorial at Faneuil Hall

Artist Steve Locke’s kickstarter campaign was successful in fundraising enough money to create his proposed Slave Auction Block memorial for outside of Faneuil Hall, however Locke has recently announced that he is no longer moving forward with his proposal. Locke says, ” The Boston branch of the N.A.A.C.P. had come out against the project, prompting Mayor Marty Walsh’s office to pull back support until all constituencies support it.” Read more on Boston 1775.

For one weekend each summer, The Rose Kennedy Greenway is transformed into a large-scale collaborative artwork – and then it’s gone.

1:00PM Glass Harmonica Concert. Stop by the Paul Revere House where Vera Meyer will play early American melodies on the intriguing instrument that Ben Franklin invented, see additional details here.
