A new tradition started this year for All Saints Day where eight religious societies came together for a celebratory gathering in Boston’s North End. Known primarily for their feasts and processions, the groups sponsored a Community Mass with Fr. Claude Scrima and Italian music on November 1st at the newly restored Saint Leonard Church. After the Mass, a unique “All Saints” procession commenced through the streets with two marching bands. The participating societies included Societá Santa Maria di Anzano, Saint Joseph Society, Madonna Delle Grazie Society, Saint Agrippina Di Mineo Benefit Society, Madonna Della Cava Society, Madonna del Soccorso di Sciacca Society (Fisherman’s Club), Santa Rosalia di Palermo Society and the San Gennaro Foundation. Santa Rosalia di Palermo was honored on Sunday, September 7, 2014 by society members celebrating 75 years of devotion to St. Rosalie in Boston. After a Mass at St. Leonard Church, the annual procession took place through the streets of the North End. The society was formed in Boston in 1939 hailing from Palermo, Italy. Read More…

It is officially summer in Boston’s North End with Sunday’s first religious procession of the season, honoring Santa Maria di Anzano. The procession was held on June 3, 2012 and started at St. Leonard Church before traversing the North End streets during the afternoon with the traditional live music of the Italian-American Band.
