Welcome back to our weekly update that highlights some of the cases appearing on 311 in the North End/Waterfront neighborhoods. All 311 cases are public information and can be found at 311.boston.gov.
311 User Unhappy With Light Pole Installment
“36 cubic foot obstruction at one of the city’s most travelled and already congested pedestrian intersections. Why is the city letting Extenet make such ill informed placements? Should also be the black historic type pole.”

Items Allegedly Stolen on Morton Street
“Packaging from stolen items on Morton Street in the North End. Next to 26 Stillman, they have video cameras.”

The original 311 post can be found here. The case was submitted and opened on August 3rd, 2018. The case is still unresolved as of August 8th, 2018.
Public Restroom Out of Service at Bocce Courts
“Toilet is broken and is not working. Screen says it is “in service” but no one has left it in hours. Would be great to have a functioning toilet for when using the Park.”

I could not believe it when I saw them installing this “light pole” monstrosity in literally the most pedestrian crowded corner in probably the entire city of Boston. And there is one 1/2 a block down in front of the library. How can it possibly need to be in that terrible location???
Not only this, but why has the city allowed cement posts in this historic neighborhood?
These things are being installed everywhere- yet when I’ve asked for new trees or trees to be replaced I’ve been told the sidewalk is too narrow. These boxes aren’t ADA compliant and I think could be easily fought.
No to mention that now there are the old cement post AND the new monstrosity right next to each other. Hopefully the cement one is scheduled for removal…….
They appear to house electronics in the base. It has been speculated that they are monitoring cellular and wifi. The “pole” between the light fixtures is an antenna.
