The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) threw a surprise 89th birthday party for Joan Murphy at the park complete with friends, cake and well wishes.
At the party, the FOCCP presented Joan with a certificate thanking her for all her hard work. Joan began volunteering in Christopher Columbus Park after several years of tending a garden with the Fenway Garden Society. The certificate notes that Joan “proves that one person does, indeed, make a difference.”
Boston’s Commissioner of Parks and Recreation Chris Cook also presented Joan with a Parks Department tee shirt and blanket.
The surprise party was a great success, with attendees as well as passersby wishing Joan the best and thanking her for making Christopher Columbus Park a gem of the North End Waterfront neighborhood.
Happy 89th birthday from a respectful stranger I hope it was a great one, my grandmother’s name is also Joan Murphy (nee murphy), (mom’s side) and she’s just turned 87 a few weeks ago. God bless you many more years to come !!!!
