Public Safety Meeting: Assault Updates, Robbery, Phone Scam, 5 Arrests in Last 30 Days

Boston Police District A-1 provided North End / Waterfront residents an update on recent neighborhood crime incidents, summarized below, at the December 2017 North End Public Safety Meeting.

*Part I Crime is down 1% year-to-date in District A-1.* 

Robberies (1)
-11/14/17 @ 2:15am @ Prince St.: Victim was walking home on Prince St. when she was approached from behind by two men.  The suspects knocked her down and removed bank / credit cards and cash from her purse before fleeing on foot towards Commercial St.

Indecent Assault (1)
-11/17/17 @ 2:30am @ Hanover St.: Victim stated she was approached by an unknown individual described as a black male, approximately 5’10” tall, medium build, wearing dark clothing which resembled a security guard’s uniform.  According to the victim, the suspect stated that he needed to talk to her about an important issue and that she had to go with him immediately.  After following the suspect for a short distance, the victim stated the suspect stopped and attempted to indecently assault her, at which time the victim ran away and called police.  Less than 24 hours after issuing a community alert seeking the public’s help in an effort to identify the suspect, a 26-year-old male from Randolph, MA was arrested and charged with Indecent Assault and Battery and Impersonating a Police Officer. Aggravated Assaults (4)
-12/1/17 @ 4:25pm @ Hanover St. (Bank of America): Bank teller reports a male suspect threatened her with a pair of scissors.  Suspect demanded his money and new debit card from the bank, but did not possess any identification.  Suspect was arrested a short distance away on Hanover St. for aggravated assault and a default warrant.

-11/26/17 @ 12:42am @ Clark St. & Hanover St.: A Lyft driver became violent and threatened a couple with a metal pipe.  The argument started when the passengers were dropped off after midnight on a Sunday night.  The couple called the driver back to retrieve items left in the car.  A fight ensued over the additional money the couple had paid the driver for returning to where he had dropped them off and for subsequently returning the cell phone the couple had accidentally left in the car.  The Lyft driver was not pleased with the amount of the extra money the couple offered him for returning the items and threatened to hit one of the passengers with a metal pipe.  Lyft said in a statement that they have suspended the driver.

-11/9/17 @ 8.30pm @ 211 Hanover St. (Mother Anna’s): An intoxicated male got into a scuffle and fled the scene.

-11/10/17 @ 4.00am @ Commercial St. (Coast Guard Base): A male suspect was stopped for trespassing.  When searched, police found hypodermic needles on him.  After the suspect made suicidal statements, he was transported to Tufts Medical Center.

Auto Theft (1)
-11/9/17 – 11/10/17 (b/w 9:00pm & 1:00pm) @ 40 Battery St.: Victim reported his 1998 Jeep Cherokee was stolen.  The vehicle was later recovered in Peabody, MA.

Larceny (7)
-11/9/17 @ 10:14am @ 329 Hanover St. (Sol Optics): Clerk stated an unknown male suspect asked to see a pair of Costa Del Mar sunglasses and fled the store on foot, with the glasses.

-91 Prince St.: A bike was stolen from outside the residence.

An older woman was the victim of a phone scam. She sent $4900 via Western Union after receiving a call falsely stating her grandson had been arrested and that she needed to wire money to pay for his attorney.

-11/14/17 @ 3:30pm @ 25 Parmenter St. (North End Public Library): Victim stated there was a male suspect hanging around the children’s section of the library.  When she got up to assist a child, her purse was taken from her chair.  The purse contained cash and keys.

-A dispute occurred between two friends in which one friend asked the other to pick up some of her medications. The victim noticed some of them were missing (including OxyContin).

-Victim reported missing jewelry.  The sister may have stolen it (as the sister had previously both allegedly stolen her car and entered her apartment without permission).

-92 Prince St.: Package theft ($65 worth of clothing).

Larceny from MV (1)
-11/17/17 – 11/18/17 (b/w 8:00pm & 8:00am) @ Fleet St. & Moon St.: Victim reports he parked his 2009 Toyota Camry.  When he returned to his vehicle the next day, his Apple iPad was stolen.  There was no sign of forced entry.

*Arrests (5)*
-Aggravated Assault (2): Bank of America and Lyft driver incidents.

-A&B (1): 11/25/17 @ Cross St. & Cooper St. (Four females started arguing in an Uber car, after which the fight spilled out onto the street.  Arrest was made for A&B on a pregnant woman.

-Warrant (1): 11/7/17 @ 1.00 @ 185 Fulton St.: A person was found sleeping in a Honda Accord.  The car was not registered.  The suspect did not possess any identification and said the car belonged to his friend.  Suspect was arrested on a warrant from Plymouth District Court.

-Indecent A&B (1): Impersonating a police officer incident.
