In its largest luncheon event over the past 40+ years, the North End Christmas Fund Committee raised over $13,000 to send 300+ holiday checks to the needy and elderly in the community.
The fund provides a bit of help to those who may be having a tough year financially, health-wise, lost a loved one or maybe just a lonely senior in need a little holiday cheer. The Christmas 2017 luncheon was held on December 7th at Fillipo’s Restaurant.
City Councilor Sal LaMattina, City Councilor-elect Lydia Edwards, State Senator Joe Boncore and State Rep. Aaron Michlewitz joined with chairs NEW Health CEO James Luisi and NEAA’s John Romano to celebrate and honor those who serve the community. Recognized at the Christmas luncheon were:
Francine Gannon – Ferdinand “Uncle Fred” Carangelo Humanitarian Award
Laurie D’Elia – Private Ernest J. Natale Community Service Award
Carla Agrippino-Gomes – Robert “Ted” Tomasone Community Recognition Award
The longstanding tradition was started by Uncle Fred Carangelo. Today’s committee is made up of several social service type agencies in the North End including North End Waterfront Health, North End Athletic Association, North End Against Drugs, Nazzaro Community Center, North End Waterfront Health, North End Seniors, ABCD Head Start Program and North End / West End ABCD Service Center. Sponsors for this year’s luncheon included Filippo Frattaroli (Filippo’s Ristorante), Carmela Laurella (CL Waterfront Properties), Donato Frattaroli (Il Molo) and NorthEndBoston.com.
You ladies deserve those awards for all you do. Just amazing congratulations and Merry Christmas. Love Freeway
