Looking ahead to new challenges and partnerships, The Boston Harbor Association (TBHA) held their 2014 Annual Meeting on Tuesday night. The event took place at the Long Wharf dock aboard the Majesty, courtesy of Boston Harbor Cruises. Longtime Board Chair, Brian Dacey, received honors as did Board Treasurer Bernie Dreiblatt. Both executives are stepping down from those positions. TBHA President Vivien Li and Executive Director Julie Wormser presented the awards while welcoming new Board Chair, Richard Meyer, of the Boston Shipping Association. Although out of town, Meyer prepared a speech read by TBHA board member and former Boston Parks Commissioner, Antonia Pollak.
TBHA has embraced the challenge of climate change targeting creative adaptation to the rising tide. Its goal is to encourage public amenities along the harborfront while providing a first line of protection during severe flooding events. TBHA was created in 1973 and spent 38 years cleaning up one of the dirtiest harbors in the country. It also led the charge for the 47-mile Harborwalk through Boston’s six waterfront neighborhoods.
TBHA is participating in #GivingTuesday seeking $50,000 in donations by December 2nd. In addition, the group is kicking off Winter on the Waterfront for the holidays and upcoming winter season.
