Taste of the North End Offers First Responders Free Entry

In light of the tragic events at the Boston Marathon, Taste of the North End is proud to offer first responders (with badge identification) free entry to the event, which is being held on Friday, May 10 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the One Fund Boston, the charity aiding bombing victims.

Proceeds will also be going to a variety of non-profit organizations in the North End, including North End Waterfront Health, the Eliot School, St. John School, North End Against Drugs, North End Athletic Association, North End Music and Performing Arts Center, ALS Champions Fund, and North End Head Start.

Taste of the North End will take place at the DCR Steriti Memorial Ice Rink on Commercial Street, and it is going to be celebrating its 20th year with samplings from more than 35 North End restaurants, along with wine and beer and a silent auction. All food and drink are included with the $99 ticket. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit tasteofthenorthend.org.

  1. doesn’t the average first responder police officer in boston make over $100K a year? i saw three standing around chatting…i mean working a construction detail on salelm street last night making $40 an hour with a four hour minimum. these guys may do a good good job, but this is their job and they are paid handsomely for it. give free admission to the vicitims or the boat owner who actually found the second suspect.

    1. And your point would be what?
If the organizers of this event decide to let first responders or anyone else attend the event for free as a thank you what the hell do you care. It is not coming out of your pocket. So SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Your ignorance is showing.

    2. The average salary of an EMT in Massachusetts is $25-$35,000. God willing there’s overtime, but there are no $40/hr details. It is our job and we’re not looking for handouts. But if someone wants to show their appreciation for the job we do, for the time we spend away from our families on weekends/holidays so that someone will be there to save your family….I will say thank you on behalf of all of us.

  2. Spoken like an elitist yuppie with a cushy office job that never had to do a day of manual labor in his/her life let alone go to war or defend the freedoms he/she takes for granted including the right to make disrespectful website comments.

    1. Wow! Truth has negativity coming out of his/her ears. What a nasty comment. God Bless First Responders. Fantastic that the first responders and being shown appreciation. Who cares if they make a million a year. You can make 200k a year and money can be tight. You don’t know what expenses people have or elderly family they may support.

  3. Yes, its the EMTs who are going into dangerous situations every day without weapons for self defense, in all kinds of weather, weekends, holidays’ and typically carrying heavy patients up and down stairs, in bad neighborhoods, often seeing bad bloody scenes, dead kids..stuff that replays in their minds…. etc.all for under $40k a year and crappy benefits. And nobody thinks of the EMTs and paramedics-there’s no glory and little respect compared to police and fire… Its nice that someone is showing appreciation to them.
