Giovanni Grimaldi and his son presented their plans to open a coffee shop at 115 Salem St during the North End/Waterfront Resident’s Asssociation (NEWRA) Zoning, Licensing & Construction (ZLC) committee meeting on Tuesday, June 23. This is the location that was formerly Dave’s Curtains.
For now, no alcohol license is being requested for the shop that will have pastry, gelati and take-out service. The Grimaldi’s have had a long process because of confusion regarding a previous application for an alcohol service license that was approved but withdrawn. The City incorrectly thought they were approving the Pushcart. The owners may apply for an alcohol license in the future.
The coffee shop will have a total of 40 seats, an increase from 32 previously. The owner’s existing store will continue to stay open as well. A resident of 44 Prince St asked the applicant to install curtains or blinds at the rear of the store because of bright lighting. The owner agreed to this request.
This application will likely come before the NEWRA July 9th and NEWNC July 13th neighborhood meetings.
