What’s The 311? Salem Street Pothole Returns; Cart of Trash in Commercial & Richmond Street Park

Welcome back to our weekly update that highlights some of the cases appearing on 311 in the North End/Waterfront neighborhoods. All 311 cases are public information and can be found at 311.boston.gov.

The Salem Street Pothole Returns

The pothole on Salem Street has returned again. It has been temporarily filled several times since last July.

“More than a pothole, this like a sinkhole! On Salem Street near Parmenter.”

The original 311 post can be found here. The case was submitted and opened on January 23, 2019. The case is still open as of January 23, 2019.

Note: This pothole has been a reocurring case in “What’s The 311?” and has been marked resolved multiple times on the 311 website.

Small Park on Corner of Richmond and Commercial Streets Allegedly Contains Shopping Cart Full of Trash

“There is a “park” on the corner of Richmond St. and Commercial St. in the North End, adjacent to Christopher Columbus Plaza apartment building. In the park there are benches, a broken street light, and an old grocery cart that has been filled with trash for over 6 months. The grocery cart is locked to the fence and is no one’s personal property. Please can you have someone remove the grocery cart filled with trash? It is now a dumping ground for beer cans, nips, needles and who knows what else. Thank you!”

The original 311 post can be found here. The case was submitted and opened on January 10, 2019. The case was then closed that same day on January 22, 2019 with the following message: “Closed with status: VIOCOR: Violation Corrected”

  1. I didn’t place the 311 order, but the cart of trash is still there as of the morning of 1/24/19, I walked right by it.

  2. I find it totally amazing how they are enforcing Paper Bags instead of Plastic, and the City is not doing enough to the repeat trash offenders. It is always an Absentee Landlord’s Property, and the fine is a joke & that is why we are
constantly getting the same offenders. This is a big issue which has been going on for far too many years.
