Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for North Square Sept. 23

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new North Square and the North Square stories public artwork will be held on Monday, September 23 from 1:15 p.m. – 2 p.m. in North Square in Boston’s North End.

Join Mayor Marty Walsh, A+J Art+Design, and the North End project team to celebrate the renovated square and the four permanent art exhibits titled “North Square Stories”.

The reconstruction of North Square goes all the way back to 2014 when community meetings were held to discuss initial design plans. Final versions, presented in 2015, included retaining the cobblestones and maintaining the history of the square while improving functionality and accessibility.

A+J Art+Design was selected in April 2017 to create a public art project in North Square. A groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction took place on October 11, 2017.

Updates on the four pieces of artwork were presented to the Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) and Residents’ Association (NEWRA) at their July meetings. The four sculptures will represent the history and culture of North Square.
