Carnival of Dogs returned to the Greenway’s North End Park on Saturday, attracting dozens of furry friends to the festivities. Presented by TD Bank, vendors offered a variety of dog-friendly activities such as pet caricatures, a smooch pooch booth and photo contest, prizes, free treats, and bandanas. Responsible Urbanites for Fido (RUFF) assisted with community tips for local dog owners. MSPCA-Angell was available to give information on adoption and resources.
The Greenway Conservancy hosted the “Smooch Pooch Booth” where owners were encouraged to take pictures with their dogs and enter a photo contest to win various prizes using the hashtags #CarnivalofDogs2019 and #TDBank on Instagram.
TD Bank offered caricatures for the four-legged friends who stopped by. The booth was one of the more popular attractions with several waiting in line for a chance to see an artistic’s rendering of their beloved pup.
Lacey, who had been waiting with her rescue poodle for a drawing, said, “I had to get a portrait done. I’ve seen other people walking around with their dog’s drawings and it looks so good. The artists are doing a wonderful job.”
The event didn’t just attract dog owners; many people headed over to enjoy the sight of all the dogs enjoying the socialization. Two attendees sat on a bench watching the tail wags from the sidelines with huge smiles on their faces. “We were headed to brunch, but we couldn’t keep walking when we came across this,” one said.
The 5th Annual Carnival of Dogs came to a successful close, achieving its goal to unite the community with the fun, dog-friendly event. The pups enjoyed a day filled with playtime, belly rubs, and all the treats they could eat.
