The completion marks the official expansion of the Eliot School to a three campus school. This building will become the Upper Eliot School, hosting classes and activities for Grades 5-8. The Intermediate School at 173 Salem Street will welcome students in Grades 2-4, and the Lower School at 16 Charter Street will welcome students in Kinder 1- Grade 1.

“We are so excited that our new Upper School building at 585 Commercial Street will be opening this fall. We are thrilled to complete our expansion into a 3 campus School,” said Principal Traci Walker Griffith. “Our terrific teachers have been engaging in powerful professional development opportunities so the Eliot School continues to provide the BEST education in Boston and beyond!,” she added.

The first day of school for students in Grades 1-8 is Thursday, September 5th with Kindergarten students beginning on Monday, September 9th.

The two-year renovation began with a groundbreaking ceremony in June 2017. Before being purchased by the City of Boston, the property was a Roche Boibois furniture store and also served as campaign headquarters for the 2012 Presidential bid by Mitt Romney.

This marks the completion of the two-part, $43 million project for the Eliot School buildings. The Salem Street location was renovated first and opened in September 2017.
