The boat, Captain Billy Haver, was the scene of a murder on Sunday as an investigation continues with the boat docked at the US Coast Guard station in Boston’s North End. The boat is an 83-foot fishing trawler based out of Virginia.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mexican crew member Franklin Freddy Meave Vazquez, 27, has been charged with murder after attacking his fellow crew members with a knife and hammer while the boat was at sea, 55 miles off the Nantucket coast. One crew member died and two others were injured in the attack.
The boat remains a crime scene at the Coast Guard station. Court documents show that Vazquez is an illegal immigrant with a record of abduction and was released by ICE on bond last April.
Note: All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
