For older diners, restaurants serve up sustenance of another kind
With all of the recent restaurant news around the city, many restaurants show hope and humanity in other ways. For certain restaurant staff, their customers can feel like family. That’s what it’s like for a North End resident named Phyllis who frequents the Black Rose in Faneuil Hall. The staff at the Black Rose often buy Phyllis her dinner, raise money to help buy her gifts and even drive her the short few-minute drive back to her apartment. Mike Tirella is a regular at Trattoria Il Panino, always with a full-bodied wine and chicken parmesan. He drives to the North End from the boulevard in Revere and sits at the bar to chat with Leo Rodriguez, his favorite bartender. Tirella is 80 and Rodriguez is 28, but they have plenty to talk about. 2:00PM Elf Movie at North End Library. Join the North End Library at 25 Parmenter Street for their Friday film showing of the 2003 holiday classic Elf, starring Will Ferrell, James Caan and Bob Newhart.
Saturday, December 23:
12:00PM “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” for charity. Join WZLK-FM in Faneuil Hall as a number of organizations get together for charity. The event will feature a blood drive with the American Red Cross, photos with Santa, entertainment by Greater Boston School of Dance and Life of the Party, and toy bins set up for donations to the New England Patriots Toy Drive.
12:00PM STEAM Saturday at North End Library. Join the North End Library at 25 Parmenter Street for an afternoon where kids will partake in various science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics activities. The Saturday children ages 6 and younger will have the opportunity to design a snowflake, see additional details here.
