MassDOT is soliciting bids for a study to determine if a rail tunnel to connect North and South stations is worth continuing technical and financial analysis. The long-discussed project was previously estimated to cost around $8 billion, but with technology upgrades, officials believe that price could be as low as $2 billion. Boston Massacre Anniversary. The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5, 1770. Three persons were killed immediately and two died later of their wounds. The British officer in charge, Capt. Thomas Preston, was arrested for manslaughter, along with eight of his men; all were later acquitted. The Boston Massacre is remembered as a key event in helping to galvanize the colonial public to the Patriot cause. More information.
