What you should know for Monday
Boston's waterfront has and continues to serve as a gateway for many generations of Americans. Irish immigrants settled into waterfront neighborhoods, like the North End, East Boston and even on the Harbor Islands before building strong proud communities in Charlestown, South Boston, Dorchester and other parts of the city and country. Notable news found elsewhere:
North Square Oyster will be opened in April by Nicholas Frattaroli, the owner of North End’s gastropub Ward 8. The new place will be in the space that formerly housed Gennaro’s 5 North Square and will be a seafood-focused affair with plates like lobster pie and sea urchin pasta. Zagat has more on highly anticipated openings, like Cunard Tavern in East Boston which will be opened by the North End’s Phil Frattoroli.
St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church and Ancient Arch have been denied landmark status in the City of Boston. St. Leonard’s Church, North End District (Chapter 40C), and Sacred Heart Church are currently pending their landmark status, The Boston Globe has the full compilation of landmarks and their proposals.
Some bakeries may keep these around until Easter, but some places will only make them until Saint Joseph Day on the 19th. BostonZest has more on their “all time favorite” from Modern Pastry, although they still enjoy a freshly-filled Zeppola from Maria’s Pastry Shop in the North End.
