Video: NEWRA meeting, November 10, 2016 – Executive and Committee Reports

The North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) presented its new executive team, led by President Mary McGee, at the November 10, 2016 meeting. Follow along with this summary and timeline for the embedded video above.

NEWRA’s 2016-2017 Executive Team

(00:00) NEWRA President Mary McGee introduced NEWRA officers, including Vice President David Goggins, Treasurer Ann DeLuca, Secretary Jennifer Crampton and Sergeant at Arms Cheryl Delgreco.

(01:00) Past NEWRA President Ford Cavallari was congratulated on his recent appointment as Chairman of ADCO, the Association of Downtown Community Organizations, an umbrella group working on behalf of Boston’s neighborhoods.

(02:40) President’s Report – Highlighting NEWRA’s 20th year in the neighborhood, Mary McGee encouraged members to work together on community issues. Some of the projects where NEWRA helped guide development include Battery Wharf, 585 Commercial Street, the new Eliot School, North Bennet Street School and the Armenian Heritage Park on the Greenway.

(07:50) Parks and Open Spaces Report – Committee meeting report by David Goggins. Volunteers are working on assessing the repairs needed in the Prado / Paul Revere Mall. Coincident with the High Tide sculpture at North & Cross Streets, the artists are looking for residents to fill out a short online survey.

(10:30) Public Safety Report – David Marx reviewed incidents from the recent public safety meeting with Boston Police. The report can be viewed here.

(12:30) Zoning, Licensing & Construction Committee Report – Victor Brogna identified four items coming up at the next ZLC Committee meeting on November 22 (7pm, Mariner’s House).

  • 112-114 Fulton Street – balcony extension
  • 8 Cooper Street – single family 3-story residence proposed to add a 4th story
  • 468 Commercial Street – commercial unit conversion to residential
  • 406-418 Commercial Street – Verizon is proposing to install an 8-foot sized fiberglass chimney with several antennas and related equipment/cabinets

Suggested issues for discussion include Traffic and Public Transportation, North Station Mobility Action Plan, AirBnb/Short-Term Rentals, Downtown Waterfront Municipal Harbor Plan, North End Nursing Home and the Charlestown/N. Washington St. Bridge project.
