“Save the North End Nursing Home” Starts Petition to Fight Closing

A petition has started to stop the closing of the North End Nursing Home & Rehab Center, set to close in about a year.

After last week’s emotional meeting on the announced closing of the North End Nursing Home, a group has formed under “Save the North End Nursing Home” with an online petition. They have also started a website and Facebook page, encouraging those interested to join.

The petition reads:

The North End community recently discovered Partners HealthCare’s plans to close the Spaulding Nursing Home and Rehab Center (formerly the North End Nursing Home) at 70 Fulton St., Boston. The decision to close this facility was made without any input from the community or concern for the impact on the long term residents who make their home there and receive daily visits from family members who are unable to travel easily to locations outside the neighborhood.

  • State Representative, Aaron Michlewitz
  • State Representative, Robert DeLeo
  • State Senator, Joseph Boncore
  • Boston City Councilor, Sal LaMattina

Save the North End Nursing Home said they will also be canvassing the community with a printed version of the petition.

An easy to remember link shortcut has been created at northendboston.com/nursing to share the online petition. A new website at SaveNorthEndNursingHome.org has also been setup to share information during the process.

  1. SAVE THE NORTH END NURSING HOME FOR OUR SENIORS AND FOR US MAYBE ONE DAY, WE SEE WHO TRULY CARES WITH THEIR HEARTS AND SOULS, OUR POLITIICIANS PLEASE STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND HELPS FIGHT THIS FOR ONCE AND WIN IT.

  2. Save the NorthEnd Nursing home for a long time. It is truly a landmark and a wonderful place .

    1. My father died there. It was very convenient for me because I worked at City Hll and visited him every day. It’s a disgrace that they are trying to bamboozle the neighborhood from taking away a much needed resource from the residents of the North End. I hope all efforts to keep it there is successful.

  3. My mom is a resident of the North End for the passed 60+ yrs and a resident of the nursing home for the passed 3 yrs. She lost her leg in 2013 and was unable to continue living alone!!! My sister and I wanted to take her to live with us but she wouldn’t have it. The thought of leaving the North End made her very anxious and depressed!! We started to see her decline rapidly so decided to keep her in the only place she has ever know. She wakes very morning and sleeps every nite to the faces and sounds that make her feel at home!! She sits outside in the summer and watches the saints of our feast pass by every weekend !! She watches all the old timers pass by and greet her!!! My sister and I and her grandchildren come to visit at least 5 times a week due to the convenience of the location of the nursing home. To rip her from all of this is a disgrace!!!
