In a split vote, no State Senate candidate won the two-third’s required of the Ward 3 Democratic Committee to receive an endorsement. After hearing from five candidates at the March 30, 2016 committee meeting, the Ward 3 Democrats voted as follows:
Joe Boncore – 8 votes
Dan Rizzo – 5 votes
Diana Hwang – 4 votes
Jay Livingstone – 4 votes
Lydia Edwards – 1 vote
Steve Mirabito and Paul Rodgers did not attend and received no votes from the committee. There were also 2 abstentions.
Candidates are vying to fill the First Suffolk and Middlesex district seat left open by the recent resignation of Anthony Pettruccelli. The district includes Boston’s North End / Waterfront, Beacon Hill, East Boston as well as Revere, Winthrop and parts of Cambridge. All candidates are running as Democrats with the Special State Primary Election set for April 12th.
In other business, the Ward 3 committee elected officers to four year terms. The following members were re-elected to these positions:
Chair – Jason Aluia
Vice-Chair – Daniel Toscano
Treasurer – Mary Ann D’Amato
Secretary – Blake Webber
Outreach Coordinator – Dino DiFronzo
Boston’s Ward Three consists of the neighborhoods of the North End, Waterfront, West End, Financial District, Beacon Hill, Downtown, Bullfinch Triangle, South End, Chinatown and Leather District.
