Diana Hwang spoke at the Ward 3 Democrats Candidates Forum this week and took questions from committee members.

Hwang is an East Boston resident and the daughter of Taiwanese immigrants. She intends to focus on issues affecting women, health care, education, and addiction treatment and support. To date, Hwang has captured endorsements from City Councilor Ayanna Pressley along with several state legislators such as State Representative Dan Hunt, State Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz, and State Senator Linda Dorcena Forry. Furthermore, former State Treasurer and 2014 Gubernatorial Candidate Steve Grossman is on her finance committee.

In the Q&A, Hwang spoke about universal pre-school, after school programs, local liquor license control and the charter school cap. She is a supporter of extending late-night T service and the so-called “millionaires tax” to increase revenue.

Candidates are vying to fill the First Suffolk and Middlesex district seat left open by the recent resignation of Anthony Pettruccelli. The district includes Boston’s North End / Waterfront, Beacon Hill, East Boston as well as Revere, Winthrop and parts of Cambridge. All candidates are running as Democrats with the Special State Primary Election set for April 12th.
