The North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) voted 25-8 to oppose an expanded roof deck at 536 Commercial Street in a request by property owner Allison Bonney.
A proviso has been in place that an existing roof deck at the address not exceed 150 square feet due to abutting windows from a neighboring building. The applicant is looking to increase the space to 367 square feet with greenery and install a new guard rail 2 feet from the roof’s edge.
The proposal was previously presented to NEWRA last November where a vote was deferred to allow the property owner to work on a agreement with abutters. Subsequently, NEWRA has received a letter from counsel to abutters strenuously objecting to the proposal.
At the January 14, 2016 meeting (video above), abutters continued to object to the proposal presented by Attorney Daniel Toscano. After a lengthy discussion, NEWRA voted not to support the application.
North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) voted last November to support the request which will now go to the Zoning Board of Approval for the final decision.
