The ABCD North End/West End Neighborhood Service Center (NE/WE NSC) held its Independence Day Party last week. Over 3 dozen seniors turned out for a home-cooked meal of barbecued chicken, hot dogs, pasta salad, watermelon, and cake.

Maria Stella, Gulla, Director, gave a moving speech to the crowd. “More than barbecues,” she said earnestly, “we also need to remember that this day we celebrate the freedom that we enjoy and the American promise of liberty and justice for all. Many of you seniors remember living through wars that were fought and the loss of young lives to preserve this freedom. It is this freedom that still today is sought by many coming to the U.S. in the hope for a better life for them and their families and it is this day that we proudly celebrate, treasure, and defend.”
Happy Birthday, America!
