Happy Third of July! Well, at least that’s what it will feel like as Boston’s 4th of July fireworks show from the Esplanade will instead be held on Thursday, July 3rd this year.

City officials announced the change due to Tropical Storm Arthur which is expected to bring heavy rain to the Boston area on Friday night into Saturday. Storrow Drive will close at noon on Thursday and the Esplanade will open at 5:00 p.m. to the public.

The Boston Pops dress rehearsal on Thursday will now be the “real thing” starting at 8:00 p.m. and the fireworks are scheduled for 10:30 p.m. The show can be viewed on CBS TV4 or online at BostonPopsJuly4th.org.

Officials also warned that there may be more changes to the timing of the celebration as the weather forecast develops.
