NEWRA Committee to Hear Pomodoro Restaurant and Changes at Former High Gear Jewelry Location, 204 Hanover Street

The North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) Zoning, Licensing & Construction (ZLC) Committee will meet on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, 7:00 p.m. at the Mariner’s House, 11 North Square. The following item is on the agenda for 204-204A Hanover Street, the building formerly occupied by High Gear Jewelry on the ground floor.

Zoning and Licensing Applications

204-204A Hanover Street, 204 Hanover, LLC by Charles A. Berry, Manager, has applied to the Zoning Board of Appeal for a change of occupancy of the building from 1 apartment, 1 office and 1 retail store to 1 restaurant on the ground floor and basement and 2 residential apartments on the floors above. The building is a three-story masonry building which will be renovated. The restaurant will be owned and operated by Siobhan Carew, long-time operator of Pomodoro Restaurant at 319 Hanover Street, who will no longer be located at that address.

The violations are usable open space insufficient, rear yard insufficient, roof structure and building height restrictions, and off-street parking insufficient. The property is located in the Hanover Street Community Commercial zoning subdistrict, where restaurant is a conditional use in the basement and first story.
Anyone seeking further information should contact the attorney, William G. Ferullo.

ZLC meetings are open to the public.

  1. I AM TRULY AGAINST ANYONE PUTTING A RESTAURANT WHERE THERE WAS NOT A PRIOR.
RESTAURANT. THIS POOR WOMAN HAS BEEN IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD FOR YEARS, A SINGLE.
MOM WHO BROUGHT UP HER CHILDREN WITHOUT ANY HELP, HAD A PIPE BOMB THROWN IN HER.
RESTAURANT YEARS AGO, AND STILL MANAGED TO STRUGGLE ON AND SURVIVED. IF ANYONE
SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO OPEN A RESTAURANT WHERE ONE NEVER EXISTED, IT IS THIS.
WOMAN. IF SHE HAD MORE THAN ONE RESTAURANT IN THE NO. END, I WOULD DEFINITELY.
OPPOSE THIS, BUT SHE ONLY HAS THE ONE RESTAURANT IN THIS VERY SMALL COMMUNITY.
I NOTICE THAT A RESTAURANT IN THE NO. END THAT HAD HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY HAS.
THEIR RESTROOMS DOWN THE BASEMENT, WHICH MEANS NO HANDICAPPED PEOPLE ARE.
WELCOMED. I WONDER HOW THEY GOT AWAY WITH THAT. “IT IS CALLED PAYOFFS”, AND.
    CORRUPTION AT ITS BEST.
