Another movie will be filming in the neighborhood, this time its “Black Mass” starring Johnny Depp. The filming will take place on May 29th from 10am – 9pm around the Margaret Street area. The movie is based on the book by two Globe reporters, recounting the story of Whitey Bulger, Billy Bulger, FBI agent John Connolly and the FBI’s witness protection program. View Post

Goody Glover’s Receives 2:00 Closing Hour Extension from Licensing Board
The last time a closing hour was extended to 2:00am at an establishment in the North End was 2011 with The Living Room. Going against the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services and the North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA), the three person city Licensing Board approved the request for the time extension. City to Remove Lights From Trees on Hanover Street
A couple pieces of noteworthy neighborhood information was addressed at last weeks NEWRA meeting. As part of Boston Shines, the Public Works department powerwashed the sidewalks on Hanover and Salem Street. Starting May 13th, the trees will be pruned on Hanover Street and the close-to-dead lights will be removed from the branches. Public Works Updates Residents on Status of New Trash Contract
What is sure to be a developing story and a contentious issue over the next several weeks will be the trash policies in the North End. The new trash contract is set to go into effect on July 1, 2014 with two hauler’s, Capitol Waste and Sunrise Scavengers responding to the city’s request for proposals for residential trash pickup. Modern Pastry Opens New Shop on Hanover Street
A staple in the North End neighborhood for generations has spread their wings further down Hanover Street. Last week, Modern Pastry opened up their extension to their store, complete with seating and liquor to accompany your pastries. View Post
