The ΣΑΕ fraternity at Suffolk University is working with Metal Tronics Inc. to make a new Firefighters’ Boot as a replacement for the one that was stolen last year from the Hanover Street Engine 8 / Ladder 1 station. The longstanding “Fill the Boot” collection supports the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The fire boot and empty lock box was found floating in the water fountain on the Prado / Paul Revere Mall. The newly fabricated boot and donations will be presented at the 392 Hanover Street firehouse on February 13th at 1:30 pm.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon Chapter at Suffolk University Replaces Stolen Firefighters’ Boot
BOSTON, MA – Every Labor Day Weekend for the past 60 years, firefighters greeting motorists on the street with their boots to collect change for the Muscular Dystrophy Association have become a familiar site in nearly every community. Sadly, last September, the boot outside of the Boston Fire Department’s North End station was stolen, cut open, and ransacked of donations.
When Sigma Alpha Epsilon (ΣΑΕ) Philanthropy Chair, Kevin Flaherty, who lives near the fire station, learned of the theft, he was appalled and angered that anyone would do such a thing, “How anyone could stoop so low is beyond me,” Flaherty said. His brothers of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at Suffolk University agreed and vowed they would replace the collection box and the boot. Jim Andaloro, President, of Metal Tronics Inc. in Georgetown, MA, heard about the project through a mutual friend. Sharing the brothers’ enthusiasm for replacing the boot, he volunteered the talents and expertise of the engineering and fabrication staff at his company to design and create a new boot collection box.
You are welcome to join ΣΑΕ on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 1:30pm when they present the new boot and donations they’ve collected for MDA to the firefighters at the North End Station.
