If you are attending this year’s St. Anthony’s Feast or just a devoted fan of San Antonio, you will want to watch the the full film documentary of “Patron Saint: The Montefalcione Devotion to Saint Anthony” that was recently made available online. The documentary was produced by North End resident, Christian Guarino of MonteBoston13 Productions. Catholic TV recently featured the documentary film on television.
The film tells the story of a community of immigrants and their continuing ties to their ancestral home. On the last Sunday of every August since 1688, citizens of Montefalcione, a small town near Naples, have honored their patron Saint Anthony of Padova. When Montefalcionesi immigrants to the United States settled in Boston’s North End, they continued the devotional tradition of their hometown.
On the final Sunday in August, despite the time difference, the communities in Boston and Montefalcione hold their grand finale, a procession of Saint Anthony, simultaneously.
