For the 7th year in a row, Mayor Menino has provided a Boston R.O.C.K.S. Grant to North End Against Drugs to provide summer programming to the youth and families of our neighborhood.
Also, NEAD was a recipient of a My Summer in the City Grant from the Boston Foundation, this is the fourth year in a row that NEAD has received this grant to provide programming for the youth of the North End.
The ROCKS Grant will allow NEAD to continue to offer Arts and Crafts at the Mirabella Pool every Thursday in July and August, starting July 11th from 1pm to 4pm. The program will once again be run by Patricia Romano and Marlo Imbergamo Dana. The crafts program is for all ages but children under 8 will need their parent to help them with the weekly craft.
There will also be two Sports Nights with Jeremy Sarzana and Elizabeth Shea. The sports nights will be held on Friday July 12th and 19th at Polcari Playground on Bennet Street, Ages 8 to 15. Younger children are welcome but will need their parents to be with them.
The My Summer in the City Grant will be four fold:
1) Help pay for umpires for the 15 to 21 year old NEAA Baseball Program
2) Free Summer Concert Series on the Prado on Thursday evenings. This will be run by NEMPAC in collaboration with NEAD. The Family concerts will start at 7pm starting on Thursday, July 11th. There will also be an interactive, educational music workshop every Monday in The Prado from 1 to 4pm beginning on Monday July 8th and running through July 26th.
3) A Night of Magic on the Prado, Friday August 9th from 6 to 8pm starring Magician Peter O’Malley. This will be a fun and educational as well as Musical Magic Show.
4) Partially fund Family Pride Week
