On Friday, November 16, 2012, neighbors and business owners who enjoy the beauty and activity of Christopher Columbus Park will come together at the Marriott Long Wharf Hotel’s newly renovated Harbor View Ballroom to support the year-round activities of the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) at Casino Night, the organization’s annual fundraiser.

“We are all excited and looking forward to our first Casino Night,” says FOCCP member Kim Caverly, chair of the event.  “We have planned an evening that will be filled with fun, laughter and great food. It’s an odds-on favorite to be the social event of the year in the North End and Waterfront.”  The evening begins with a cocktail hour at 7:00 p.m. and includes a silent auction, heavy hors d’oeuvres, gaming tables, “Casino Cash” and as a special treat, a photo booth is being sponsored by CL Waterfront Properties, LLC. Tickets for Casino Night are $115 each and can be purchased online at www.foccp.org.

Since its founding in 2001, FOCCP has grown in numbers and commitment to the neighborhood.  2012 family-friendly events included the Tot Lot cleanups, 4th of July Celebration, an Old Fashioned Picnic in the Park, Sunday Night Movies in the Park and Columbus Day Celebration.

The major corporate sponsors of FOCCP are Al Dente and Benevento’s Restaurants, Boston PushCart, CL Waterfront Properties, LLC, Marriott Long Wharf Hotel and Tia’s Restaurant.  “The organization’s major financial investment is in the lighting of the trellis,” says President Joanne Hayes-Rines.  “All of the funds we have raised are supplemented by thousands of volunteer hours of work.  For example, the Rose Garden is totally maintained by the FOCCP Horticulture Committee.   We have a dedicated, active membership that works diligently to supplement the City of Boston’s maintenance program.”

On Monday, November 19, Mayor Thomas M. Menino will light the trellis for the holiday season.  Refreshments and entertainment will be provided.  The trellis lighting ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m.

More information about FOCCP membership and events in the Park can be found at http://www.foccp.org, on our Facebook page and on our bulletin board in the Park.
