Parks Committee Planning Meeting for “Celebrating the Prado and Cyrus Dallin’s Paul Revere”

Update from the NEWRA Parks and Open Space Committee:

The North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association’s Parks and Open Space Committee will meet this Tuesday, March 6, at 7:00 PM.  Our usual meeting location, the Nazzaro Center, will be hosting the presidential primary that day, so we will instead meet in the ABCD Center, 1 Michelangelo Street (corner of Charter and Michelangelo streets).

The meeting will be devoted to the planning of our April 29, 2012 event called “Celebrating The Prado and Cyrus Dallin’s Paul Revere” that will be held on The Prado.  Ideas for the event include historical information on the creation of The Prado and about Cyrus E. Dallin and his 55-year saga to have his Paul Revere statue commissioned and erected; a city proclamation of “Cyrus Dallin Day”; and reenactment of highlights from the original statue dedication program, September 22, 1940 (copied below).  Co-sponsors so far include The Old North Church, Friends of the Prado, Paul Revere House Museum, Cyrus Dallin Museum in Arlington, and North End Historical Society, along with NEWRA.

The purpose of the event is to build awareness of the history and value of The Prado and build advocacy for the park.  Chief among the goals is to strengthen the Friends of the Prado group to be an effective partner with the City of Boston and the George Robert White Fund for park improvements and care in the long term.

We can use a lot of help in putting the April 29 event together.  If you have an interest, please attend the meeting this Tuesday or send an email to parks@newra.org.

Thank you,
