The My Neighborhood Census Viewer was recently released by the Boston Redevelopment Authority, allowing the public to research data to the 2010 census block area. Using the viewer to create a rough area of the North End / Waterfront reveals the following:
- There are 11,753 residents in the North End / Waterfront. See the map image for the area used in this analysis.
- By age, exactly half are in the 20-34 age category. Another 20% are in the 34-54 category, 10% 55-64 and 14% over 65 years old.
- The North End / Waterfront is 53% female.
- By race, the community is 90% White.
- There are just over 7,000 households, of which 33% are considered ‘family,’ 64% in non-family and 3% in a category called ‘group’ households.
- 5.2% of households have children under 18 years of age and 78% are husband/wife households.
- 90% of housing units are occupied with 10% vacant or seasonally occupied.
- 70% of housing units are renters with 30% owner-occupied.
