Golf Tournament, Party to Benefit Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism

Join Doug Flutie and celebrity guests at the 12th Annual Doug Flutie, Jr. Celebrity Golf Classic, June 21 at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth.  Presented by Sun Life Financial, the Celebrity Golf Classic begins June 20 with a pre-tournament party at the Hard Rock Café in Boston. Proceeds from the Golf Classic and pre-tournament event will benefit the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism.

The Golf Classic fun begins on Monday, June 20, with a pre-tournament party at the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston, presented by Sports Illustrated. The evening will include raffles and a silent auction, as well as classic rock favorites performed by the Flutie Brother’s Band.  Tickets for the pre-tournament party are $75 each and include appetizers, meal stations and select beverages.

The golf tournament tees-off on Tuesday, June 21 at Plymouth’s Pinehills Golf Club.  Foursomes start at $5,000 and include: golf round for four people with a celebrity team member (for a total of five golfers); gift bags for team members; complementary tickets to the pre-tournament party; company recognition in program book as foursome sponsor; day of tournament lunch, cocktails and buffet dinner.

“Each year, the Celebrity Golf Classic is our family’s kick-off to the summer season, and we’re so happy to share this fun event with our friends and supporters,” said Doug Flutie, co-founder of the Flutie Foundation. “Since 1999, the Golf Classic’s annual tournament and pre-party has brought us together to help families and individuals affected by autism, and we hope you’ll join us for another great year.”

In the past 12 years, the Celebrity Golf Classic has raised over $1.1 million to help the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism provide support to thousands of families where other autism organizations have fallen short: providing direct assistance to individuals with autism and their families with services they need.

“I am extremely proud of the long-term association Sun Life Financial has had with the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism,” said Michael Shunney, senior vice president and general manager of Sun life Financial’s Employee Benefits Group. “The Celebrity Golf Classic is one of the many events the Foundation sponsors to raise funds to support thousands of families.  This year’s Celebrity Golf Classic provides an excellent opportunity for the community and businesses alike to support autism while enjoying a great round of golf at the Plymouth Pinehills Golf Course. We look forward to seeing many of our friends and supporters and welcome new participants to this year’s event.”

About The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism:

The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism, Inc. was established in 1998 by Doug Flutie and his wife, Laurie, in honor of their 19 year old son, Doug, Jr. who was diagnosed with autism at the age of three.   Autism is a neurological disorder that impacts the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction and communication skills.  Autism now affects one in 110 children in the United States, and the numbers diagnosed continue to dramatically climb.

Our mission is to support families affected by autism spectrum disorder.  We are committed to increasing awareness of the challenges of living with autism and helping families find resources to help address those challenges.  We provide individuals with autism and their families an opportunity to improve their quality of life by funding educational, therapeutic, recreational and advocacy programs.
