Outdoor terrace at Sensing at Fairmont Battery WharfSensing at the Fairmont Battery Wharf is closing, to be replaced by a new Italian Mediterranean restaurant called Aragosta.
Chef Guy Martin opened Sensing about two years ago but said he plans to “focus on new projects outside of Boston” in a press release. Gerard Barbin, the current chef at Sensing, will also be leaving.
Aragosta is expected to fill the space this Spring, with David Daniels, who is currently at Topper’s at the Wauwinet in Nantucket. The theme is expected to be Italian Mediterranean.
This was just a matter of time. Vastly overpriced French cuisine with minimal portions in an off-the-beaten track location was doomed for failure on day 1. In France this restaurant surely would have succeeded; however in Boston patrons want value and there was none here. Hopefully the new Italian-Mediterranean will provide more buzz for this dead location on the waterfront.
True about Sensing but their Kobe beef burger specials were amazing! What we need is a SEAFOOD restaurant on the waterfront with outdoor seating not another Italian restaurnant. Dontcha think tourists and non North End residents will go to Hanover St and Salem St instead of a hotel?
Another Italian restaurant….? Now there's a novel idea in the North End. I agree – should have been a seafood restaurant or otherwise an upscale Asian restaurant would have been nice!
