The English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes from the North End visited the state house to meet with Representative Aaron Michlewitz and to view the student profiles from the Boston Adult Literacy Initiative (ALI) on display in Doric Hall. The ALI is comprised of Boston adult basic education providers that receive funding from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education/ the Mayor’s Office of JCS.
The ABCD North End/West End Neighborhood Service Center English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program at 1 Michelangelo St. had chosen Huseyin Senturk to be featured as the center’s student profile. Lia Tota, Executive Director, and Representative Michlewitz honored Mr. Senturk for his dedication and accomplishments in his adopted country. He had studied English at 1 Michelangelo for several years and is currently a highly regarded intake worker at the center.

Representative Michlewitz continues to support the adult education program in the North End. He has previously spoken at the ESOL Community Coalition and last week congratulated all of the students visiting the state house on their efforts toward becoming active members of their communities. He was especially happy with the number of students that are employed at North End restaurants and still find time to attend ESOL classes. His office also graciously arranged for a guided tour of Senate and House of Representatives chambers and the outer rooms of the Governor’s office. It was a wonderful experience for the students who had just completed a study unit on state government.
