Meetings Police & Fire

From the Franciscan Friars at St. Leonard’s

Attention to parishioners of St. Leonards, Sacred Heart, St. Stephens and St. Mary’s: We are in the process of requesting our Regional Bishop to celebrate
the Sacrament of Confirmation in our parish by the Fall of 2010.  The
Chancellery Office requires that we have not less than 15 candidates
to the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Please, if anyone in your family is
interested (the minimum age is Jr. High School)  request an
application from the parish office at St. Leonard’s and return it to
us no later than November 10th.  Later on we will establish the
schedule for the classes to prepare candidates for the sacrament.
Keep in mind that if we don’t reach 15 candidates by November 10th, we
will have to postpone our petition for another year.

(N. B. First Communion Classes have already started at St. John’s
School – call 617-227-3143 for info).
Parish Office: 14 North Bennett Street, Boston, MA 02113

___________________________________________

On a sadder note, a rash of collection box robberies and vandalism have forced the closing of all three of the North End’s Catholic Churches when not in use (St. Leonard’s, Sacred Heart, St. Stephens). The churches are usually left open to residents and tourists to pray. This issue has been discussed at the last two Public Safety meetings as the Police work with the parish. The police have identified a suspect, but have not yet made an arrest.  The parish hopes the closure will be temporary.
