Monday’s Brief: Hidden Treasure Found in Langone Park, Old North Church Opens Up About Link to Slavery, Seniors Movie Matinee

Today is Monday, October 28 and last week it was reported that a local family solved a 37-year-old puzzle and discovered a hidden talisman buried under home plate in Langone Park in the North End, read more on The Boston Globe.

12:30PM Seniors Movie Matinee. The Nazzaro Center is hosting it’s first Movie Matinee for seniors age 55 & up “The House on Haunted Hill”(1959). Hotdogs, water, movie theater popcorn and candy will be provided, see additional information here.

The Old North Church, a symbol of American freedom, has also become a symbol of American reckoning after new research shows that Boston slave traders that helped build the steeple, were entwined in a slave-smuggling ring, read more on The Boston Globe.

10:30AM Toddler Story Time. Join the North End Library and listen to stories, sing songs, and learn together through movement and play. This story time is ideal for little ones who have started walking or moving on their own.

11:00AM Baby Story Time at the North End Library. Enjoy gentle stories, songs, and lap bounces for pre-walking babies and caregivers.

3:30PM After-School Adventures. Drop by the North End Library after school to explore art, science, or engineering through hands-on activities. Ideal for kids 4 years old and up.

5:30PM Open House: Boston Common Master Plan. The Boston Parks and Recreation Department and the Friends of the Public Garden invite you to the first Boston Common Master Plan Open House on at the Bordy Theater, 216 Tremont Street. The goal of the Master Plan is to create a Common that will serve the people of Boston and visitors alike while protecting this special place for decades to come, see additional details here.

7:00PM ZLC Meeting. The October Zoning, Licensing and Construction (ZLC) Committee meeting will be held at Mariners House at 11 North Square, see additional details here.

Wednesday, October 30

3:00PM Kids’ LEGO Club. Drop by the North End Library after school to build whatever you can imagine using LEGOs and DUPLOs.

4:00PM BTU Homework Help at the North End Library. The Boston Teachers Union sponsors a Homework Helper program in each of the Boston Public Library branches. The BTU provides a teacher to help children with their homework for free.

6:00PM NEWRA Party at the Pilot House, 2 Atlantic Ave. Residents of the North End and the Waterfront are welcome to come and find out about NEWRA and learn how to get involved with your neighborhood! Costumes welcome but not required, see additional details here.
