Free lecture at the New England Aquarium: Thursday, May 30 at 7 p.m.
Scientist and producer for PBS show “NOVA” Ari Daniel joins the New England Aquarium for the next lecture in their Free Spring Lecture Series. Daniel was the recipient of the Kavli Science Journalism Gold Award for his radio stories on glaciers and climate change in Greenland and Iceland, and he will be sharing the tips and tactics he has learned during his long career.
WHAT: Ari Daniel, a scientist and award-winning freelance journalist, will explain the impact of storytelling in communicating scientific concepts to a mass audience in his free lecture, “Stories in Science: Vessels of Power and Possibility.” Acutely aware that science journalism can feel inaccessible, Daniel strives to tell stories that will resonate with the broader public. He will explain how different mediums offer different opportunities and share stories of how he has used radio, video, and live storytelling to make science come alive.
WHO: Daniel is a senior digital producer for PBS’s NOVA and a freelance science journalist, reporting on science topics across five continents. He has trained gray seal pups for his master’s degree at the University of St. Andrews and helped tag killer whales off of Norway for his Ph.D. at MIT and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The American Association for the Advancement of Science awarded Daniel the Kavli Science Journalism Gold Award for his radio stories on glaciers and climate change in Greenland and Iceland. He also co-produces the Boston branch of Story Collider, a live storytelling show about science.
