Susan came to ABCD after leaving the workforce and seeking a meaningful way to fill her time. She has lived in the North End for eleven years. This is her fourth year as a volunteer of ABCD. Previous to her service she worked 25 years at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center as a Unit Coordinator.
She thought about volunteering after her first visit and then she started to come to the center every day. Susan helps daily by doing filing; answering the phone; and performing general office work. Every morning she opens the center at 8:00 am and prepares coffee for the clients. She also assists with the hot meal on Mondays and Fridays and helps to give out food to the food pantry clients.
In addition to her volunteer work at the NE/WE NSC, she accompanies clients or North End neighbors to doctor’s appointments and runs errands for them when they are sick. Susan thanks us for letting her work with us every day before going home. “I love it here! The organization is so good,” she says repeatedly. “You help everybody; I have never seen anybody turned away and everybody is treated with dignity and respect. I also like the fact that I can use some of my skills here.” She is efficient and a real asset to the NE/WE NSC and the community. Thank you for your service, Susan!
