10:00am Preserving Your Photographs at Congregational Library, 14 Beacon St.
Learn about preserving your photographs with the archival staff at the Congregational Library for a hands-on workshop. Whether it’s film, prints, or digital files, the archivists have tips to help ensure that your pictures are in good shape to last. Register Here

6:30pm Discussion & Slide Presentation: More Charles Frani Photos of a Neighborhood in Transition
[West End Museum, 150 Staniford Street, Suite 7, Boston] A Neighborhood in Transition: 1961-1980, features about two dozen Charles Frani photographs that portray major changes in the West End over the course of the two decades. This event is free and open to the public.

Start of NEMPAC’s Keys 4 Kids Pledge-a-thon
NEMPAC Private Music Instruction Students begin raising pledges for their musical practice. Proceeds go towards children’s music scholarships, new instruments, and the music program. For more information visit www.nempacboston.org.

Friday, May 2

10:00am “Chasing Life” Filming at the Prado on Hanover St.
After filming a 2012 pilot under the name, “Terminales,” ABC Family is returning to film scenes for the upcoming series to be called “Chasing Life.” The main character, a young journalist with family issues and a cancer diagnosis, lives in the North End. Parking is expected to be unavailable on Hanover Street from Tileston to Charter Street. View Post for more details, including dates, locations, and times.

6:30pm St. John School “Dare to Dream” Gala Fundraiser – Fairmont Battery Wharf Hotel
Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, raffles, silent auction and the Tree of Growth will take place along with dinner, live auction and dancing at 8:00 p.m. Joining the festivities will be special guest and Speaker George Forman III. Ticket/Donation: $100.00 – Tables of 8 and 10 can be reserved, dress in “Cocktail Attire.”

6:30pm Short Film Night: “Jane Jacobs in her own words” [West End Museum, 150 Staniford Street]
To kickstart Jane’s Walk weekend: we present a series of interviews with renowned journalist and author. Jane Jacobs’ “Death and Life of Great American Cities” is a classic and scathing criticism of the way urban planning was conducted in 1960’s.  This event is free, pre-registration is required.

10:00am Cobblestone Cafe Fair at 227 Hanover Street
Cobblestone Cafe says “thank you” to all the customers who helped make their first year a success, join them in their celebration. Fun for all ages, including stilt walkers – minion characters – raffles – prizes – giveaways biscuits for Fido – photos – music and more.

11:00am Walking Tour: “Jane Jacobs in the West End: Could her ideas have changed the neighborhood?”
[West End Museum, 150 Staniford Street, Suite 7, Boston] The West End Museum’s first time participating in Jane’s Walk, a global event that brings free walking tours about Jane Jacobs and city planning to cities. The event is free, pre-registration is required.

12:00pm Tot Lot Cleanup & Pizza Party at Christopher Columbus Park
Playground/Tot Lot clean-up and family neighborhood social, all neighbors and friends are welcome for FOCCP’s annual kid-friendly extravaganza including free entertainment as they ready the playground for the season. View Post

12:45pm World Labryinth Day at Armenian Heritage Park on the Greenway
A global initiative of The Labyrinth Society, participating countries, to date, include: United States, Canada, Ireland, England, Bahamas, France, Spain, Netherlands, Germany, New Zealand, China, South Africa and Australia. Annual Program at the Park in collaboration with the Labyrinth Guild of New England, City of Boston/Mayor’s Office of Arts, Tourism and Special Events, Greenway Conservancy and Friends of Armenian Heritage Park. 1:00pm Summer Saturdays at the Paul Revere House
Special events on Saturday afternoons in May will feature craft demonstrations, historical talks, live music, and more in the Paul Revere House courtyard, weather permitting. Included with admission to the museum.

1:00pm Walking Tour: “Remnants of Urban Renewal”
[West End Museum, 150 Staniford Street, Suite 7, Boston] Cost: $7 Members/$15 Non-Members. The term ‘urban renewal’ has become synonymous with Boston’s West End. In the late 1950′s and early 1960′s, more than 50-acres of tenement housing was demolished under the process of ‘slum clearance’ to make way for luxury high-rise buildings; over 10,000 low to middle-income residents were relocated. Pre-registration is required.

Sunday, May 4

10:00am Free BHAC Bootcamp at Christopher Columbus Park
Open to everyone – “Get your butt kicked for free!” with this free outdoor boot camp with Ashton Munroe, A certified personal trainer for Beacon Hill Athletic Clubs.
