Nomination Forms Now Available for 2013 Election of North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC)

The North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) is holding its annual election on Saturday, May 18, 2013, 10am-2pm at the Nazzaro Center, 30 N. Bennet Street. All North End/Waterfront residents age 18 and older are invited to seek election to one of the six seats to be filled.

Completed nomination forms are due on May 3, 2013 at 5:00 pm at the Nazzaro Center, 30 N. Bennet Street, with at least 25 signatures from North End / Waterfront residents (Ward 3, Precincts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6), 18 years or older. The person at the front desk of the Nazzaro Center will record your nomination paper submission.

NEWNC is comprised of twelve North End/Waterfront residents who serve as an advisory board to the City of Boston in municipal affairs.  Council members are elected to a two year term and terms are staggered so that six seats are filled each year.

NEWNC was created in 1984 by the Mayor’s office in an effort to increase communication between the neighborhoods and city agencies. The Council meets on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Nazzaro Center,  30 North Bennet Street.

This year, the six seats to be filled are currently held by Philip Frattaroli, Bill Lane, David Marx, Jorge Mendoza, Stephen Passacantilli and Jonathan Sproul. Bill Lane and Jonathan Sproul have announced they are not running for re-election.

The six council members with one more year left on their two-year terms include Toni Gilardi, Ryan Kenny, John Pregmon, Gennaro Riccio, Marie Simboli and Anne Devlin Tagliaferro.

Qualified candidates will be invited to introduce themselves to the neighborhood at Candidate’s Night, which will be held on Monday, May 13th, during NEWNC’s May monthly meeting.
