Thursday’s Brief: Happy Halloween! ‘Friends’ Pop-Up Coming to Boston, Mah Jongg Club, Trick-or-Treating, Halloween Parties

Today is Thursday, October 31 – Happy Halloween! Check out our guide for all the tricks and treats of the North End.

Here’s what else you need to know for today…

11:00AM Mah Jongg Club. Come by the North End Library and play the American-style variant of this tile-based game that originated in China and requires skill, strategy, and calculation. Beginners are welcome. No sign up is required. Weekly on Thursdays in October.

3:30PM North End Trick-or-Treating. The North End Waterfront Mothers’ / Fathers’ Association (NEWMA) is once again sponsoring neighborhood trick-or-treating. In order for the holiday be a wholly inclusive celebration, NEWMA is encouraging both residents and local businesses to participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project, see additional information here.

7:30PM Post Trick-or-Treating Halloween Party. Join Boston Community Collaborative for a post trick-or-treat Halloween pizza party at Filippo’s. This event is intended to provide a fun, safe, warm activity for kids aging up in the neighborhood! Aimed at kids age 9 and up with a parent / caregiver, see additional information here.

10:00PM Halloween Party at Trattoria II Panino. Join Trattoria II Panino for their 4th Annual Halloween Party. Think you have the best Halloween costume? Enter costume contest for a chance to receive $1000! All proceeds will benefit Allergy Awareness.

A ‘Friends’ pop-up is coming to Boston

In honor of the ‘Friends’ sitcom 25th anniversary, a themed pop-up complete with Instagram-worthy photo ops will be coming to Boston starting this November, read more on Boston.com.

10:00AM NBSS Open House 2019 at 150 North Street. NBSS trains students for careers in traditional trades that use hand skills in concert with evolving technology. In doing so, the School preserves craft traditions and promotes a greater appreciation of craftsmanship, RSVP and see additional open house details here.

12:30PM IDEA Boston at the Dante Alighieri Cultural Center in Cambridge. The Italian-inspired festival of books, authors and culture organized by independent bookstore I AM Books will be returning Nov. 1 and 2, see additional details here.

6:00PM All Saints Day Mass at St. Leonard Church. Members and guests of the many North End socities will gather, celebrate, and raise funds for the North End community. 6:00pm Mass will be held in St. Leonard’s church followed by a short procession through the streets of the North End

Saturday, November 2

9:30AM North End Neighborhood Clean Up and Luncheon. Join us for a North End neighborhood clean-up and luncheon. We will meet at the Prado at 9:30 to pickup equipment and spread out to cover various North End areas, meeting up again at 12 noon at the Prado for a luncheon, see additional details here.

11:00AM Dementia Information Session. This free information session is a discussion led by a volunteer Dementia Friends Champion. You’ll learn what dementia is, what it’s like to live with it, and some tips for communicating with people who have dementia, see additional details here.

12:00PM 14th Annual ROC Teen Saturday Halloween Carnival. The Recovery Outreach Community (ROC) Teen Saturday program will host its 14th annual Haunted Halloween Carnival at the Nazzaro Playground. There will be rides, a bounce house, super slides, kiddie obstacle courses, food, drinks, pumpkins, face painting, movies and more, see additional information here.

1:00PM DeRoucheau Kinitwear PopUp at Shake the Tree. Meet our favorite knitter (and Shaker) Deanna DeRouchey who will here with her winter collection of hand-knit hats, scarves and throws!

  1. A free “ticket” (which there are no more) and surprisingly free) is now required all of a sudden for the dinner portion tomorrow for the All Saints Day Event . Something to add to the description for the event just in case folks from each society who are helping out including myself who was just informed of this now. Goes to really show how St J’s society is lacking and needs to change 🤷
